About

About

The Wildings Project CIC is based on a 10 acre farm with sheep, goats, alpacas, chickens (coming soon!) and woodland. There are a variety of native trees and shrubs, mixed grassland and all the birds, insects and wildlife you could hope for in the Lincolnshire countryside!

The Wildings Project aims to improve the wellbeing of members of the local community by inviting them to engage in farming activities. Feeding the animals, mucking out, doing health checks, spending time with the animals, weeding, trimming hedges, monitoring the woodland, maintaining fences and shelters, building new enrichment activities for the animals – the list goes on! This is called care farming and is a type of ‘Green Care’ – in other words, using nature, animals and the great outdoors to help improve mental health, wellbeing or education outcomes.

Services

Sessions

Adult Wellbeing Groups

In small groups, you will have the opportunity to participate in farm life at The Wildings. You can help care for the animals, plant trees, monitor wildlife or just quiet your mind in a peaceful space. Perhaps you would like to re-purpose natural materials such as the sheep and alpaca fleeces or listen to the birds?

2 hours - £15 per person - fully funded places available soon

Junior Farmer Club

Aimed at primary school age children, a small group of Junior Farmers will be led by our own Junior Farmers (aged 10 and 12) and supervised by a suitably qualified adult. The Junior Farmers will help feed, muck out and health check the animals - and provide lots of cuddles to them!

1.5 hours - £11 per child

Private Sessions

We are able to offer private sessions for people who are not able to access group settings. We are also able to run private sessions for specific community groups such as Home Education groups, schools or care homes. Please contact us to discuss how we can meet your requirements.

Session length and cost dependent on requirements

Wellbeing Walks

Perhaps farming jobs are not for you, but you value the time and space for connecting with nature and practicing your own mindfulness. You recognise the benefits of physical activity and would enjoy a gentle stroll around The Wildings, taking a seat to watch the birds and observe the animals' natural behaviour.

1 hour - £5 per adult, £3 per child

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you based?

The Wildings is about 3 miles outside of Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, in a rural setting. We email out maps and the What3Words location to you with your booking confirmation. We are quite easy to find!

Is car parking available?

Yes, we have a small carpark that is suitable for all weather conditions - no fear of getting stuck in the mud! Parking is limited and something we take into account when accepting bookings, so please do let us know if you are able to share transport.

Can I catch a bus to you?

Although there is not a timetabled bus service right to our gate, our area is covered by the Call Connect bus service from Gainsborough. This means you can be dropped off and collected from our gates for a very reasonable fare! If you are coming from the Lincoln area, the closest bus stop is 1.5 miles away.

Do you have toilets?

Yes, we have a converted shed that currently houses a chemical toilet. Our plans in alignment with our sustainability and environmental policy is to build a composting toilet. We have mains water on site so hand washing facilities are also available.

What should I wear?

The Wildings is an outdoor facility, so you will need to dress for the variable British weather! It is a farm with uneven land so sturdy footwear (fully enclosed shoes, boots or wellies) are needed. The site is quite exposed, so we recommend wearing layers including a waterproof coat and hats or ear warmers in cooler weather. In hot weather, we still advise full length trousers to protect your legs from vegetation. Hats, sunglasses and suncream are advised in sunny weather.

Do I need to know anything about animals?

Not at all! We welcome everyone who has an interest in nature, the outdoors, animals and farming. If you have not previously had livestock handling experience, don't worry. You can get involved if and when you feel ready but don't have to do anything you don't feel comfortable with. We feel sure you will fall in love with our wonderful residents!
